  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk, warmed
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting


  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the warm milk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract.
  3. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, and mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes on a floured surface until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
